Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Lexington public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Federal Homelessness Funding Application
The council forwarded roughly $3.6 million in winter shelter contracts, including the main emergency shelter on Versailles Road. A council member relayed constituent concerns about last year's neighborhood impacts, and staff committed to consistent security and police coordination throughout the season.
FY 2026-27 ad valorem property tax levies
The council introduced the ordinances setting next year's property tax rates — 75 cents per $100 on real property in the General Service District, plus health department and soil conservation levies. Nothing is final until second reading, but these rates will show up on every property owner's tax bill.
Employee pay increase
All eligible city employees get a 2% raise effective June 29, part of the FY27 budget — good news for retention of police, fire, and general government staff.
Mayor's Proposed Budget Public Hearing
Residents got their only chance to weigh in on the mayor's proposed budget at this hearing. One speaker urged redirecting $278,000 earmarked for CASA of Lexington, arguing the group's $6.3 million in reserves means other organizations need it more.
